A trading card shop in SoHo owned by football legend Tom Brady was robbed of almost $10,000 worth of Pokémon cards and baseball cards, and police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the thief.
The incident happened just before noon on Oct. 20, when the crook entered the Lafayette St. store and tricked the cashier into thinking he had paid for the merchandise, police said. After his credit card was declined, the crook entered prompts into the terminal, manually overriding the system without the employee’s knowledge, according to police.
The suspect made off with roughly $9,710 worth of baseball and Pokémon cards, cops said.
The store, CardVault by Tom Brady, opened only two weeks before the robbery. It specializes in trading cards and high-end sports memorabilia, and features a “collector’s lounge where fans can rip packs and connect over the hobby,” according to a press release on the opening.
Former star football quarterback Brady owns a 50 percent stake in the company, which also sports outlets in East Hampton and the American Dream mall in East Rutherford, N.J., among other locations.
Cops described the suspect as a man with a medium complexion, who was last seen wearing a black Yankees cap, black sweatshirt, black shorts and white sneakers. He was carrying a distinctive tote bag with a cartoon character on it.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
