Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is being criticized for signing legislation to change the name of the Palm Beach International Airport to the President Donald J. Trump International Airport. The name change will go into effect on July 1, 2026.
The President’s son, Eric Trump, thanked DeSantis, his Lt. Governor James Uthmeier and Republican State Rep. Meg Weinberger for “making this happen.”
Prominent right-wing lawyer and former DOJ prosecutor Gregg Nunziata responded to DeSantis’s decision by writing: “Trump is an unpopular president. Yet, there’s an un-American wave of renaming things in his honor during his term in office, not because of his greatness, but because of his smallness, bullying, and vindictiveness. Shame on those supposed public servants who play along, inflicting great civic damage on a country that should be better than this.”

When a Trump supporter responded to Nunziata: “You realize that 1/2 of us still like Trump right? Not much has changed,” Nunziata replied, “I mean, somewhat less than that, but that’s still the point. These are not eye-popping numbers that would normally inspire an orgy of naming stuff after him after his death, like FDR or Reagan, much less while currently serving.”
Democrat influencer Janice Hough responded: “Palm Beach International Airport is the worst US airport for 60+ minute flight delays. So at least this one is very on brand. A lousy airport for a worst President.”
Note: Eric Trump also shared renderings of the forthcoming Trump presidential library/skyscraper in Miami, see below.

Scott McConnell, co-founder of The American Conservative magazine, responded to Eric’s Trump’s post, writing: “So so ashamed and embarrassed to have voted three times for this person.”

People in the comments were curious about what specific Trump transgression had triggered McConnell’s new shame and made him change his mind — after all, Trump getting something like an airport named after himself is hardly out of character. McConnell replied: “Iran war.”
Following up, another commenter touched on numerous other issues Trump detractors have found problematic: “Not the J6? Not the Epstein file? Not the tax evasion? Not the sexual assaults and filthy language?”
Characterizing the list including January 6th — and presumably Trump’s pardons for it — as not “all that important,” McConnell replied: “no, none of those seemed all that important, though J6 was enough to support DeSantis in the primary. But stupid wars is.”
