Donald Trump ripped off his microphone and stormed out of an interview after being asked about his election claims, saying ‘Thank you darling, have a good time’.
The US President told NBC’s Kristen Welker on Meet the Press she was a liar despite exaggerating claims he had wiped out Iran’s forces leaving them with ‘nothing’.
With tractors in the background, a violent rainstorm can be heard pelting off the barn roof causing technical difficulties and long delays, adding to Trump’s frustration.
After being pressed for evidence on his claiming the recent California elections were ‘rigged’, Trump rants: ‘The elections are like a third-world country.
‘Your elections are crooked and you’re crooked and Meet the Press is crooked and so is ABC and CBS and CNN.
‘You are one-sided crooked networks…let’s call it quits. I’ve had enough. Thank you darling have a good time.’
Ms Welker asked him to stay, saying she had travelled ‘all the way’ to Wisconsin for the sit-down.
Trump hit back: ‘I’ve sat in the rain with you for an hour! I’ve given you enough time. You ought to straighten out your press.
‘You know what? A country can never be great with a dishonest press. Let’s GO.’
He then storms off.
Trump also claimed during the wide-ranging interview that major arms of the Iranian military were ‘gone’ as a result of the current war.
‘Their navy is gone. Their air force is gone. Their anti-aircraft is gone,’ Trump said.
He said at another point in the interview: ‘In three months, I’ve demolished the navy, the air force, anti-aircraft. They have no radar. They have nothing.’
But NBC analysis shows around half of Iran’s unconventional navy – small fast boats – remains intact after weeks of bombing.
Ms Welker also pressed Trump on his campaign pledge not to start any new wars.
‘I didn’t guarantee no war. Why would I have built the strongest military in the world?’ Trump said. ‘I built our military.’
But Trump promised while campaigning in Pennsylvania in 2024: ‘I will not send you to fight and die in stupid foreign wars that never end.
‘I will not send our sons and daughters to go fight for a war in a country that you’ve never heard of. We’re not going to do it. We’re going to bring our troops home, and we’re going to focus on America First.’
And in his November 2024 victory speech, Trump said: ‘I’m not going to start a war. I’m going to stop wars.’
Donald Trump will mark his 500th day back in the White House with a record that no POTUS wants.
According to The Economist’s tracker of YouGov polling, the president’s net approval rating has slumped to -25pts, making him the most unpopular US president recorded by the tracker since it began monitoring public opinion back in 2009.
Just 35% of Americans currently approve of Trump’s performance in the job, while an intimidating 60% actively disapprove of it.
