Extreme conditions on Saturday led to many boaters not being able to finish the race and even saw a crash between two yachts.

And in horrifying scenes, one man was flung overboard and had to cling onto his life jacket.

It is understood the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) was standing by and raced to the sailor’s help.

His condition is not yet known.

The event, organised by the Island Sailing Club, puts amateur sailors up against the very best involved in the sport.

Around 10,000 people take part every year.
