Two women ‘sexually assaulted by man inside wartime tunnels’ at Dover Castle

A man is accused of assaulting two women inside wartime tunnels at Dover Castle.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the alleged incident at 1.30pm on Sunday, April 6.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s wearing a black or grey tracksuit.

Officers have carried out a number of enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage.

The tunnels at Dover Castle in Kent were used during World War II and became the command centre for Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of British and Allied soldiers from Dunkirk.

They featured communication rooms, planning areas, sleeping quarters and hospital rooms.

Around 300,000 tourists visit the medieval castle and its tunnels every year.
