Ukraine’s new attack submarine is like something out of Batman

An attack submarine that can sneak up on enemies and secretly place magnetic mines on warships has been developed and could help Ukraine fight Russia.

The prototype of the Kronos stealth vehicle has been developed by UAE-based Highland Systems and engineers claim it can perform a full 180-degree turn at maximum speed.

They also say the vehicle ‘can neutralise all surface and underwater threats and in general defend itself from hostile aggressors’ and launch torpedo attacks.

With that all in mind, the vessel bears an uncanny resemblance to the batboat from the Batman films.

Batman uses the boat when he needs to travel on water and like the Kronos it can also become a submersible.

It allows the Dark Knight to travel up to speeds of 120mph as he saves the day.

The 30-foot long Kronos sub sadly can’t travel as fast but does reach speeds of 50mph on water and 31mph submerged.

It also features some impressive James Bond-like devices including fold up wings, an underwater drone, and a quadcopter that can fly off on reconnaissance missions.

Kronos also has room for a pilot as well as well as ten special forces troops.

Those on board have a maximum air supply of 36 hours and can dive to depths of 820 feet.

Sea tests for the prototype have been ongoing for a year and a spokesperson for Highland Systems said: ‘It is ready and tested, and is now undergoing modernisation and upgrades after results.

‘We are installing a more powerful and quieter engine and electric batteries.’

The company say they cannot confirm a timeframe yet for Ukrainian deployment, ‘but have other countries customers ready for placing orders.’

The spokesperson confirmed upgrades to the vessel will be carried out in September.

But it has ignited speculation because of his sudden rise in the government’s inner circle considering his low profile and the potential he could become Putin’s successor.

This is because under the constitution, the PM is first in line to take over as acting president until new elections if the leader resigns, is removed from office or has to step aside for health reasons.
