Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from May 6-11.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.
Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.
We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.
We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:
Avery Adelman, Gunn track and field: Adelman, a senior, placed first in the 300-meter hurdles when she ran the event at the CCS qualifiers in 44.42. That beat her season-best mark of 44.54 set back in March.
Amirat Temi Aganju, Pittsburg track and field: Aganju, a sophomore, qualified for the 100-meter race for the NCS championships after she ran it in 12.004, just 0.005 seconds faster than second-place at the Tri-Valley meet. Aganju also won the 200-meter race and helped Pitt place first in the 4X100 relays.
Addie Brower, San Ramon Valley lacrosse: Brower, a senior, scored two goals and had one assist in SRV’s NCS Division I championship victory over Redwood. Brower had 35 goals and 13 assists on the season.
Maren Byrne, Los Altos swimming: Byrne, a freshman, won the 200 IM state championship with a time of 2:00.00. She had previously won the CCS title in that event after swimming it in 2:01:49. Byrne also set a personal best in the 100-yard breaststroke at the CIF championship with a time of 1:03.63.
Eva Busquets, Monte Vista swimming: Busquets, a freshman, helped Monte Vista finish third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.29 and rank fourth in total team points. Busquets swam her leg of the relay in 22.94.
Alana Daly, San Leandro track and field: Daly, a sophomore, won the long jump at the NCS Bay Shore meet after jumping a distance of 17-11.00. Daly also helped San Leandro place second in the 4X100 relay.
Mia Gutierrez Soteriou, Carlmont softball: Gutierrez Soteriou, a senior, was 3 for 3 with an RBI in the season finale against Burlingame. She was 2 for 5 in an earlier victory against Woodside, and ended the regular season batting .356.
Zoe Lahanas, Clayton Valley Charter track and field: Lahanas, a senior, was first in the 800-meter race at the Tri-Valley meet after running it in 2:13.90. The senior also placed third in the 400-meter event.
Ellie McCuskey-Hay, St. Ignatius track and field: McCuskey-Hay, a sophomore, won the 100-meter race, anchored the team’s second-place 4X100 relays finish and jumped 17’4” in the CCS track and field qualifiers.
Jasmine Whorley, Alameda softball: Whorley, a senior, closed out the regular season with a spectacular performance. In a 1-0 victory over Castro Valley, she allowed just two hits and struck out 10 in a complete game. It was her seventh double-digit strikeout game.
