Waste Management of Colorado opened its new 71,000-square-foot Denver South Transfer Station at 2400 W. Union Ave. in Englewood last week, rebuilding the facility three years after a fire destroyed the original in June 2022.
“With this expanded transfer station located south of the city, WM is better positioned to efficiently and safely service customers throughout south metro Denver as we continue to support the community’s Waste No More initiative,” said David Brannon, WM area vice president.
Featuring an upgraded design, expanded footprint and state-of-the-art operational processes, the new transfer station will be able to process approximately 3,000 tons of materials daily and over 60,000 tons per month.
WM invested more than $25 million into revitalizing the 5.7-acre site and constructing the transfer station, which will service Denver, Englewood, Littleton, Centennial, Aurora and other nearby communities.
Municipal waste and recycling collected from homes and businesses in the area are received by the transfer station and temporarily stored in separate bays before recycling is moved to one of WM’s recycling facilities for processing. Trash is transported to the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site Landfill.
In addition, WM’s new South Metro facility is designed for efficiency and safety, featuring a fire suppression system.
WM of Colorado has served Colorado communities for more than 62 years, and has more than 2,350 employees working at 40 facilities across the state.
Sixty-eight percent of the Colorado WM fleet operates on compressed natural gas.
