What could Katie Holmes tell Ana de Armas about Tom Cruise?
The discovery this week that Katie Holmes liked a May 1 Instagram post that said her ex-husband Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas had confirmed “their love affair” has people guessing about what the “Dawson’s Creek” star could be thinking.
As People magazine, BuzzFeed and other outlets reported, Holmes’ like of the Instagram post, related to a Daily Mail report on the alleged love affair, was still visible as of Tuesday morning.

People magazine and other outlets also have noted that Holmes, 46, has long been very private about her five-year marriage to the 63-year-old “Mission: Impossible” star, even in the face of intense public fascination. Their reportedly contentious 2012 divorce has been followed by years of reports and speculation about the role that Cruise’s involvement in the Church of Scientology played in their split and about his alleged estrangement from their 19-year old daughter, Suri, after Holmes was reportedly granted custody. But Holmes has never commented on the divorce or given an interview that offers her insights into what it was like to be married to the famously intense mega-star.

One wonders if Holmes would share her insights with de Armas, either as a friendly way to encourage her to go for the romance, or as a warning. Maybe Holmes thinks that Cruise is at least an improvement on de Armas’ most recent relationships: her COVID-19 lockdown romance with Ben Affleck, followed by dates last fall with Manuel Anido Cuesta, the 26-year-old stepson of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
For the latter romance, the Cuban-born de Armas was savaged online for being friendly with the stepson of a man widely regarded as an authoritarian leader, overseeing a repressive regime in the communist island nation.
Cruise and de Armas, 37, first sparked dating rumors in February, when they were photographed during a night out in London, People reported. Since then, they have been seen together multiple times, including on the “Ballerina” actor’s birthday in May. That same month, the “Knives Out” star confirmed that she was working on multiple projects with Cruise, while the “Top Gun: Maverick” star raved about her performance in “Ballerina,” a new spinoff of the John Wick movies.
“(Ana is a) very, very talented, great dramatic actress, comedic, tremendous ability, learns quickly,” Cruise told Extra at the time.
People reported that representatives did not respond to requests for comment about the alleged Cruise-de Armas romance, or about Holmes’ like of the Daily Mail post.
