A spring storm headed for Colorado on Thursday could drop more than 2 feet of snow in the mountains and 9 inches in the Denver area, according to the National Weather Service.
Between 6 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Saturday, Denver and Denver International Airport will see between 2 and 7 inches of snow, according to NWS forecasters.
Other Thursday morning snow forecasts include:
- Between 1 and 5 inches in Fort Collins and Loveland
- Between 3 and 8 inches in Arvada, Aurora, Broomfield, Centennial, Highlands Ranch and Lakewood
- Between 4 and 11 inches in Parker, Larkspur and Golden
- Between 6 and 12 inches on Floyd Hill
- Between 7 and 13 inches at Eldora, Breckenridge Ski Resort and the Keystone Ski Area
- Between 8 and 16 inches in Rocky Mountain National Park, including on Milner Pass, Trail Ridge Road and at Bear Lake
- Between 10 and 18 inches along U.S. 40’s Berthoud Pass, U.S. 6’s Loveland Pass, Vail Pass and at the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel
- Between 9 and 27 inches in northern Colorado’s Park Range Mountains, including Mount Zirkel and Mount Werner
- Between 8 and 21 inches in southern Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, including Red Mountain Pass, Skyway Point, Wolf Creek Pass and San Luis Peak
The Eastern San Juan Mountains above 10,000 feet, including Wolf Creek Pass and Cumbres Pass, will be under a Winter Storm Warning from midnight tonight to 6 p.m. Saturday.
In northern Colorado, Rabbit Ears Pass, Rocky Mountain National Park, the Medicine Bow Range, Summit County, the Mosquito Range and the Indian Peaks will be under a Winter Weather Advisory from 6 p.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Thursday will start windy and dry with “critical fire weather conditions” before the spring storm approaches in the afternoon, NWS forecasters said in a Hazardous Weather Alert.
Snow will start in the mountains as early as 11 a.m., reach the foothills after 6 p.m. and arrive in the Denver area and Eastern Plains after midnight, forecasters said. Rain may hit lower elevations after 4 p.m. Thursday, before the snow arrives.
