The White Sox said Thursday that the fan who fell into the Royals’ bullpen during the game Wednesday was doing well.
“We reached out to the fan to check on his well-being, and his friend was able to share a positive report,” the Sox said in a statement. “The entire White Sox organization and clubhouse are wishing him a full and speedy recovery.”
The game was delayed in the fourth inning to treat the fan who had fallen into the bullpen beyond the right-field wall. He was taken from the stadium on a stretcher and transported to a hospital for more treatment.
The fan fell in the bottom of the third inning, but the game continued until a stadium employee notified umpire crew chief Chris Conroy. Sox manager Will Venable and Royals manager Matt Quatraro were notified of the situation.
The outfield wall at Rate Field is 8 feet high, and the height from which the fan fell is several feet higher. The railing in front of the first row is about 2 1/2 feet high from the floor of the seating area.
A Sox official couldn’t recall a fan falling similarly at Rate Field before.
