The White Sox signed catcher Omar Narvaez to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training.
The left-handed hitting Narvaez, 32, who played his first three seasons with the Sox in 2016-18, batted a combined .200/.276/.286 over the last three seasons between the Brewers and Mets. His best years were in 2019, when he hit 22 homers with an OPS of .813 with the Mariners, and in 2021 when a strong first half (eight homers, .866 OPS) with the Brewers earned him a spot on the NL All-Star team.
The Sox have catchers Korey Lee and Matt Thaiss on the 40-man roster with Triple-A catchers Kyle Teel and Edger Quero, their No. 2 and No. 6 prospects, respectively, seemingly close to making debuts in 2025. Teel was the top prospect among four acquired from the Red Sox for All-Star lefty Garrett Crochet in December.
The Sox traded Narvaez to the Mariners for closer Alex Colome after the 2018 season. He played one year in Seattle before getting traded to the Brewers.
