A Wisconsin man was found guilty on attempted murder and battery charges after he and his dog attacked a woman in a McHenry park more than two years ago, according to the McHenry County state’s attorney’s office.
Judge Tiffany Davis found Raymond Link, 47, guilty of attempted first-degree murder and six counts of aggravated battery, the office said.
Link was walking with his unleashed dog about 3:25 p.m. May 5, 2024, in Peterson Park, 300 Peterson Park Road, when he and his dog Dhamer attacked a 59-year-old woman who was also walking her dog, prosecutors said. Link beat, stomped and strangled the woman before his dog also bit her, “nearly claiming her life.”
The woman suffered injuries to her face and multiple dog bites. She was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, and later flown to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
A man, 37, attempted to intervene as he saw Link kick the woman in the head, but was also injured by Link and his dog, prosecutors said. The man suffered a broken clavicle and was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.
“This was a horrific act of violence that forever changed the lives of two innocent people,” said State’s Attorney Randi L. Freese. “The victim endured unimaginable injuries, and a brave citizen put himself in harm’s way to intervene and help save her life.”
Link is set to be sentenced in September.
