The Bears will have to monitor the injury report for another opposing quarterback.
Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco has a sore right throwing shoulder, Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Monday, and is considered day-to-day by the team. The Bears will play the Bengals on Sunday in Cincinnati.
Flacco went 21-for-34 for 233 yards and two touchdowns in a 39-38 loss to the Jets on Sunday, running twice for 14 yards and a touchdown. He left the game briefly Sunday but returned and said afterward that he felt fine.
Jake Browning would play if Flacco is unable to go. He was so inefficient in replacing Joe Burrow earlier this season that the Bengals made the unusual move of trading with a divisional rival and acquired Flacco from the Browns.
In three games with Cincinnati, Flacco is 81-for-126 for 784 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s posted a 100.1 passer rating. Star receiver Ja’Marr Chase has caught a whopping 38 passes from him.
It really doesn’t matter who’s at the quarterback position, they have some real guys on the outside,” cornerback Nick McCloud said. “So I really don’t think it changes much for us in our room.”
The Bears spent last week monitoring the injury status of two -time MVP Lamar Jackson, who had missed the previous two games with a hamstring problem. The Ravens said he was a full participant Friday, then said Saturday they should have ruled him as limited. They could face league discipline for the misdirection. Jackson was ruled out for Sunday’s game, and backup Tyler Huntley beat the Bears, 30-16.
Over the last two games, the Bears scored two touchdowns on 20 plays inside the 10 — a run by D’Andre Swift on third-and-goal from the 2 on Sunday and a one-yard run by Kyle Monangai the week before.
