A good Samaritan flagged down officers when they saw the victim, a 40-year-old woman, lying in the street after a vehicle hit her and left the scene early Wednesday on the West Side.
The incident happened around 1:40 a.m. in the 3900 block of West 5th Avenue when a woman believed to be about 40 years old was in the street with multiple injuries, Chicago police said.
She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.
No one was in custody.
The Police Major Accident Investigation Unit is probing the wreck.
