A woman died three days after she was shot in the head on the Lower West Side earlier this month.
Itzel Gomez, 24, was a passenger in a vehicle in the 2200 block of West 23rd Place around 7:20 p.m. Dec. 19 when she was shot in the back of her head by gunfire, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Gomez was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where she was initially in critical condition but was pronounced dead at 4:28 p.m. on Dec. 22, authorities said. An autopsy on Dec. 23 determined Gomez, of the 2600 block of West 23rd Place, died of a gunshot wound to her head, according to the medical examiner’s office.
