2025 ATP DC Open Winner Alex de Minaur: 5 Fun Facts You Need to Know

Following Leylah Fernandez’s big win on the WTA side of the Mubadala Citi DC Open draw, Alex de Minaur won his tenth ATP singles title, defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a thrilling back-and-forth affair.

On the heels of the win, here are five fun facts you need to know about the new ATP world No. 8.

#1: He’s The Proud Owner of Two Treasured Mini Coopers

Off the court, De Minaur is an auto enthusiast who refers to his prized Mini Coopers as his, quote, “little babies”.

During an interview with Tennis.com back in May, he spoke about the two cars, revealing that he isn’t ruling out the possibility of buying a third Mini:

“They’re my little babies. The Mini was the first car I got. I thought it was kind of iconic, and it was so much fun to drive. And then I just couldn’t help myself. I’m not sure I can stop at two, either. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

De Minaur frequently posts both cars on Instagram, as seen below:

#2: He’s An Avid Golfer

If Alex de Minaur wasn’t a professional tennis player, he would be a pro golfer, or so he says in his ATP Tour bio.

The 2025 Mubadala Citi DC Open winner is an avid golfer, who often shares videos of himself attempting trick shots on Instagram.

During an interview with Golf.com back in February, De Minaur explained why he, and so many other tennis players, take up golfing as a hobby:

“There’s a lot of similarities. That’s why you have a lot of tennis players gravitate towards golf. Not that they find it easy — I think golf is one of the toughest sports there is — but you can have a pretty good idea of how to swing and make contact.”

#3: He’s Engaged To WTA Player Katie Boulter

De Minaur and WTA world No. 43 Katie Boulter aren’t just US Open Mixed Doubles partners, the two have been dating since 2020. Late last year the two announced their engagement via Instagram,

Boulter, who reached a career high of No. 23 in the world last year, has won three singles titles throughout her career.

As De Minaur joked during an appearance on Tennis Channel midway through Wimbledon 2024, he gets more nervous watching Boulter play than he does for his own matches.

“100% watching Katie play [is worse] it’s not even a question. It is nerve wracking, it isn’t easy. ”

#4: He’s Informally Mentored by Two-Time Grand Slam Champion Lleyton Hewitt

Two-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt has served as an informal mentor to De Minaur throughout his career. This year, Hewitt joined coaches Adolfo Gutierrez and Peter Luczak in the new world No. 8’s box at SW19 for his 2025 Wimbledon run.

Long before that, Yahoo! Australia reported that when De Minaur was first getting his feet wet, Hewitt even invited him to live with him.

#5: He Speaks English, Spanish, and Some French

Alex de Minaur’s mom, Esther, is from Spain, and because of that, the ten-time title winner’s family relocated from Australia to Spain when he was five. As a result, he can not only speak English, but also Spanish, and, as he showed at the 2024 French Open, he can even speak some French.

Following his quarterfinal win against Daniil Medvedev, De Minaur addressed a packed crowd at Suzanne-Lenglen in French, earning him some bonus points with the Paris crowd.
