The Bills’ offense has sputtered in their last two games — losses to the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. Quarterback Josh Allen has faced mounting pressure as his receivers have struggled to create separation, leading some insiders to speculate that Buffalo may look to add offensive reinforcements before the trade deadline.
With the trade deadline approaching on Nov. 4, the Bills could be in the market for a receiving threat.
Through six games, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Josh Palmer have posted similar production. Shakir leads the group with 25 catches for 268 yards and two touchdowns, followed closely by Coleman with 24 receptions for 237 yards and two scores. Palmer, who has been ruled out of the Week 8 game against the Carolina Panthers with an ankle injury, trails slightly with 14 catches for 234 yards and no touchdowns.
Here are four receivers the Bills could target in a trade, according to The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia.
Chris Olave and Jakobi Meyers Offer Intriguing Targets for Allen
New Orleans Saints‘ Chris Olave and Las Vegas Raiders‘ Jakobi Meyers are on two very different paths. Olave is confident he’ll remain with the Saints, but the front office might have different plans. While Meyers has requested a trade from the Raiders multiple times.
Buscaglia noted that Olave would be an ideal schematic fit for the Bills as a true Z receiver. He can threaten defenses at all three levels with his elite route running and ability to earn targets, and he still has room to grow as a player. If Buffalo were to acquire him, Olave could quickly become one of Allen’s primary weapons.
However, the Saints (1-6) recognize his talent and may prefer to keep him in New Orleans as they rebuild. Olave carries a modest $794,000 cap hit this season and has a fifth-year option available in 2026.
The Meyers case is interesting because he is rental for the season as he is set to be a free agent in 2026. Additionally, Buscaglia noted that the Bills would need to create some cap space to cover the remainder of his prorated salary. The cost would likely be lower than acquiring Olave, and as a free agent, Meyers could potentially help the team earn a compensatory draft pick down the line.

Despite those considerations, there are still compelling reasons to add him. Meyers would provide an immediate boost at Z receiver, creating separation outside the numbers—a clear area of need for the Bills, especially with Palmer set to miss some time. Meyers would serve as a strong complementary piece alongside Coleman and Shakir.
Bills Could Targets Rashid Shaheed or Rashod Bateman
Another Saint the Bills could target is Rashid Shaheed. Shaheed would instantly provide the Bills with a weapon they currently lack—elite deep speed, the ability to stretch the field, and a proven knack for converting those opportunities.

Last year, the Bills demonstrated with the Amari Cooper acquisition that they’re willing to move a player who normally lines up at X receiver to the Z spot opposite Coleman. They could take a similar approach with Shaheed, adding a new dynamic to their offense.
Buscaglia pointed out that Shaheed would be far less expensive to acquire than Olave, and as a potential 2026 free agent, the Bills could eventually earn a compensatory draft pick for him.
Lastly, Rashod Batemen with the Baltimore Ravens may be available, but the only way that seems possible is if the Ravens continue to lose before the deadline and fall to 1-7.
Bateman is under contract through 2029, with all guaranteed money expiring after the 2026 season and a straightforward opt-out available in 2027 if desired. His cap hit for 2025 is also minimal.
