The San Francisco 49ers enter the final weekend of 2025 with postseason positioning still in play. Several availability questions continue to take shape, as preparations for Sunday night move toward the finish line.
While much of the focus this week has centered on who might not be available, one offensive piece has quietly trended in the opposite direction as the week progressed.
Key Offensive Piece Set to Return
Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall practiced for a third straight day this week and is tracking toward playing Sunday, per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Pearsall entered the week listed with ankle and knee concerns. While he remains officially listed as questionable, his steady presence on the practice field suggests the 49ers are increasingly comfortable with how he’s responded physically as kickoff approaches.
He looks likely to return after missing the 49ers win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Why Pearsall’s Availability Matters for the 49ers
Pearsall’s importance goes beyond the usage.
When active, he adds flexibility to the 49er’s receiver rotation, helping maintain spacing and allowing the offense to stay versatile with personnel groupings. His presence reduces the need to overload snaps elsewhere and gives quarterback Brock Purdy another reliable option.
In his last outing against the Tennessee Titans, Pearsall had 6 receptions on 7 targets, for 96 yards.
The balance he brings will become more valuable late in the season, when defenses tighten windows and the margin for error narrows.
Additional Injury Context Entering Sunday Night
Pearsall is not the only player being monitored.
Tight end George Kittle remains a game-time decision as he continues to manage an ankle injury. The 49ers have taken a cautious approach with Kittle throughout the week, and his status is expected to be determined closer to kickoff.
If he’s unable to suit up, the 49ers could lean on Jake Tonges. The backup tight end was a key contributor in the first half of the season during Kittle’s absence.
On the defensive side, cornerback Renardo Green has been ruled out and will miss another game.
The Bigger Picture for the 49ers
The 49ers have already secured a playoff berth, but the final two weeks remain meaningful.
A win over the Chicago Bears would set up a regular-season finale against the Seattle Seahawks with division positioning and seeding still unresolved.
For now, Pearsall’s trajectory is encouraging. If it holds through the weekend, the 49ers may enter Sunday night with one fewer question mark, even as others remain unresolved.
