For the Miami Dolphins, in order to even potentially sneak into the playoffs, they need to win out. In order to do so, they’ll need all their talent at their disposal over the coming weeks. For this week’s game, they just got positive news in that regard.
De’Von Achane-who left last week’s game against the Jets with an injury-had his status up in the air for tomorrow’s Monday night matchup with the Steelers. Now, according to coach Mike Mcdaniel, he is “ready to roll”.
This is highly encouraging news for the Dolphins as Achane has been a revelation this season, leading one of the league’s best rushing attacks. This week, he only needs 11 carries to surpass his season high total of 203 carries and has already broken his career high in rushing yards for the team as well(1,126 yards).
There were some suggestions that Achane was always going to play in this game, and the reason he exited last week’s game early was merely a precaution. Mcdaniel suggested as such in his comments, saying that, “He was hurting, but he was available to come back in the game in an emergency…You worry about breaks — that takes time. Didn’t see that, but he will be getting treatment. He was available to come back in the game. I just chose not to put him in.”
Achane’s Role in Miami’s Late-Season Surge
It is important to note that Achane has been the impetus of an offensive change for the Dolphins as they are starting to approach cold weather games more appropriately. By leaning on the run game, the pressure has been taken off of Tua’s shoulders, leading to the Dolphins winning five of their past six games and somehow entering the playoff picture in the process.
Another interesting factor is how the Dolphins and especially Achane have approached facing a former teammate in Jalen Ramsey. In a blockbuster trade, the Dolphins sent Ramsey to the Steelers, getting Minkah Fitzpatrick back in return.
Said Achane of the matchup, “It’s gonna be fun. It’s just stuff like that you look forward to. They’re a great team. We’re gonna bring our best, and I’m pretty sure they’re gonna bring their best.”
Why Achane Is the Key to an Upset
For now, Dolphins fans should just feel fortunate that Achane is back and a part of the team’s plans. After all, with Achane, the Dolphins can exploit his speed and get him to the outside where he thrives. After all, the Fins are third in the league on runs that go around the right end.
While several other players are expected to come back for this game, such as standout corner Jack Jones, and defensive end Chop Robinson, Achane is the most critical. In order for the Dolphins to have any success, they need their run game to get going, and Achane is the nucleus of it all. Chances are if they give him the ball, they will make things happen offensively..and potentially pull off the upset.
