Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide are still licking their wounds from a disappointing loss to Michigan in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament last Friday night.
Despite the upsetting defeat, Coach Oats and the Tide still have plenty to be excited about regarding the future of Alabama basketball.
Alabama basketball fans may want to take a closer look at what’s coming to Tuscaloosa.
During one of the biggest showcases in high school basketball, future Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball guard Jaxon Richardson delivered a performance that should have all Tide fans excited.
Jaxon Richardson Showcased His Complete Game
While competing in the McDonald’s All-American Game on Tuesday night, Richardson proved to be one of the best two-way players in his class.
The first thing that stands out about Richard is his elite athleticism. He can score at all three levels, but his highest upside is on the defensive end of the floor.
In 21 minutes of action, Richardson left his mark on the game.
Jaxon Richardson Wins Slam Dunk Contest
Aside from his all-around game, Richardson is also one of the best dunkers in high school basketball. On Monday night, Richardson participated in the McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest and won it.
Who is Jaxon Richardson?
It should come as no surprise that Richardson is one of the nation’s top basketball prospects. Richardson is the son of former NBA star Jason Richardson.
His father played nearly 15 seasons in the NBA, averaging over 17 points per game for his career. Jaxon’s father was also known as a high-flyer, winning the NBA Slam Dunk Contest twice (2002,2003).
Jaxon’s older brother, Jase, is currently a rookie in the NBA as a member of the Orlando Magic.
Simply put, basketball is in Jaxon’s blood.
Why Jaxon Richardson Matters for Alabama Basketball
Adding a player of Richardson’s skill set will only help the Crimson Tide. We all know Coach Oats loves guys who can score the basketball, but the upside that Richardson has on the defensive end could elevate the Alabama program to be a more balanced team in 2026.
