Angel Reese has grown accustomed to the spotlight as one of the faces of the WNBA, and now her brother is heading to one of the most storied franchises in the NBA as the forward agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Lakers. The news comes after Julian went undrafted following a solid four-year career with Maryland.
The Terrapins announced the news of Julian’s signing on social media via a June 27, 2025, message on X.
Julian is one of several undrafted players who the Lakers signed to the team’s Summer League roster. The former Maryland forward will now be competing to earn a spot on the Lakers roster. Julian averaged 13.3 points, nine rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game in 36 starts for the Terrapins in 2024-25.
Angel Reese on Brother Julian Signing With the Lakers: ‘OPPORTUNITY. COME ON JU.’
After news broke of the signing, Angel quickly took to social media to give her brother a shoutout. The Chicago Sky star is ready for her brother to make the most of the moment.
“OPPORTUNITY,” Angel said in the June 27, message on X. “COME ON JU.”
Angel and Julian have been pushing each other to become great basketball players since they were a young age. Now, the Reese family is hoping both Angel and Julian can both have long and successful pro basketball careers.
“Everything was always competitive with my younger brother,” Angel told What’s Up? Media in a March 8, 2022, interview. “We had a basketball court in front of our house, and it was always very competitive and intense. We played all the time together. It helped shape me to who I am now.
“… Everything was just competitive. Our basketball court in front of the house had to be taken away because we were just so competitive. Everything was just always win, win, and win. My younger brother didn’t want me to be better than him. We used to argue and say, ‘Who is taking the shots?’ But it really helped my game.”
The Lakers have signed several talented undrafted player in addition to Julian. Los Angeles added former Villanova standout Eric Dixon, who led the country is scoring at 23.3 points per game last season. Additionally, the Lakers signed North Carolina star R.J. Davis.
What can Lakers fans expect from Julian as he attempts to make the team? Like his sister, Julian is a stellar rebounder while also being a threat to score. The Sporting News’ Stephen Noh provided a scouting report on Julian’s game.
“Julian does most of his damage from the inside, where he is a much better finisher than Angel,” Noh outlined in a March 21, story titled, “How good is Julian Reese? Scouting report on Angel Reese’s brother ahead of 2025 NBA draft.” “He’s hit a very promising 55.2 percent of his field goals this year and is able to power through contact or back his way down in the post. He’s also developed into a strong free throw shooter after some early shaky seasons.
“Where Reese really shines is on the defensive side of the ball. He served as the anchor of the No. 6 defense in the country this season, covering for a shaky center in lottery-bound teammate Derik Queen. He’s a smart and switchable defender who gives great effort. He plays with a toughness that is reminiscent of his sister.”
