Antoine Semenyo is an early doubt for Bournemouth’s clash with West Ham after withdrawing from the Ghana squad with injury.

Semenyo started on Friday in an international friendly against Japan but was withdrawn in the 56th minute as Ghana fell to a 2-0 defeat.

The Black Stars are due to face South Korea in another friendly on Tuesday, but Semenyo will play no part after being ruled out with an injury.

In a brief statement on their website, titled ‘Antoine Semenyo’s injury’, the Ghana Football Association said: ‘Left anterior talo-fibula ligament sprain, which was aggravated during the game against Japan.’

The 25-year-old did not appear to be in discomfort when he left the pitch, with any potential injury was not discussed by Ghana head coach Otto Addo in the post-match press conference.

Semenyo will likely return to Bournemouth for treatment, with Cherries boss Andoni Iraola expected to provide an update on the winger’s condition in his own pre-match press conference later in the week.

An injury to Semenyo would be a huge blow to Bournemouth, given his importance to the south coast side so far this season.

Semenyo has scored six goals and assisted three in 11 league appearances, with his form prompting links with several ‘big-six’ clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City have been credited with interest in the versatile forward, but reports suggest that Semenyo is not angling for a move having signed a new contract over the summer.

‘I don’t think about it too much,’ Semenyo recently told Sky Sports when asked about the speculation surround his future. ‘I try to stay present as much as I can. You see the news all the time, I see it as well, I’m not oblivious, but I try to keep focused.

‘I’m enjoying my football here. If I’m not scoring goals, all of that goes away. I try to stay present, do the best I can for the team, score goals and whatever happens in the future happens.’

Bournemouth, meanwhile, currently sit ninth in the table and just one point off the top four.

The Cherries host West Ham on Saturday and will be looking to bounce back after suffering consecutive defeats to Manchester City and Aston Villa prior to the international break.
