Sacked Liverpool boss Arne Slot has reportedly entered talks to become the new manager of the Netherlands following their embarrassing World Cup exit.
Slot left Anfield just over a month ago and just over a year after he masterminded Liverpool’s second Premier League title.
The Dutchman had the unenviably task of replacing club legend Jurgen Klopp in 2024 but defied all expectations as the Reds cruised to a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title in his debut season.
Many backed Liverpool to defend the trophy in 2025/26, especially after Slot spent over £400million on new players, including Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

But almost all of the new signings flopped, while Slot lost the confidence of several players, most notably star man Mohamed Salah who subsequently ended his contract with the club early.
Dumped out of the domestic cups and Europe early, Liverpool slipped to fifth in the table, enough to qualify for the Champions League but with their lowest points tally in a decade.
Given his early success, it was expected that the Reds would keep faith with Slot but he was axed at the end of May, with former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola replacing him.
But it seems that the 47-year-old will not be out of work for very long, as Sky Sports Germany report that initial talks haven taken place with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) over the national team job.
The process of replacing Ronald Koeman is still in its early days and Slot is one of several candidates, though he has been the bookies favourite for the job since the Netherlands crashed out of the World Cup.
Koeman’s announced that his second spell with Oranje had come to an end after they were beaten on penalties by Morocco in round of 32 in North America.

Though they had topped their group, the result fell well below expectations for the former European champions and three-time World Cup finalists, with the manager’s tactics coming under heavy scrutiny.
Prior to moving to Anfield, Slot won the Dutch Eredivisie and KNVB Cup with Feyenoord, and also reached the final of the inaugural UEFA Conference League.
Among the other names touted for the top job are former Manchester United bosses Louis van Gaal, Erik ten Hag and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Legendary United and Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, who was sacked by Feyenoord in June, is also among the frontrunners.
