Arsenal are in pole position to sign FC Midtjylland’s Dario Osorio, who has been branded the ‘next Alexis Sanchez’.

The Gunners registered their interest in the 22-year-old forward last year but opted against making an official bid.

Osorio who, like former Gunners favourites Sanchez, can play on either wing or through the middle enjoyed another productive season with the Danish club, scoring eight goals and registering 10 assists in all competitions.

Mikel Arteta is determined to strengthen his attack this summer having been forced on his side’s defensive qualities to help end a 22-year wait for the Premier League title.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of marquee names since the transfer window opened with the likes of Julian Alvarez, Morgan Rogers and Bradley Barcola all on the radar of the Premier League champions.

Arsenal, too, have been keeping their eye out for potential bargains with Leicester City’s teenage sensation Jeremy Monga and Anderlecht’s Greece international wide man Christos Tzolis also earmarked as targets.

Speaking to Standard Sport, however, FC Midtjylland’s sporting director Kristian Kjaer confirmed that Arsenal maintain interest in a player who has been linked with a number of other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.

‘We know that Arsenal have been looking into Osorio, but we also know other clubs in the Premier League have done the same,’ Kjaer revealed.

“I also think it is well known that Bournemouth looked into him historically. There are other clubs in the Premier League also looking into him.

‘In my opinion, he serves the Premier League very, very good because he has a hard-working mentality.

‘His defensive transition runs are amazing, his top speed is amazing. Left-footed right winger can go to the right and to the left of his direct opponent.

‘He has the full package, seen as the next Alexis Sanchez in Chile. I can see him making a difference in the Premier League.

‘Arsenal as the champions. I think that might also rock their boat a bit and see how we can keep this position for next season. I don’t know.

‘We will see where it all ends up.’
