Day three action from SW19 delivered plenty of memorable moments, with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz continuing his quest to become just the fifth player in the open era to win three-straight Wimbledon titles.
After a hard-fought opening match against Fabio Fognini, Alcaraz cruised past Hertfordshire’s Oliver Tarvet in straight sets (6-1, 6-4, 6-4). The win pushed Alcaraz’s current win streak to 20, putting him alongside Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal in the annals of tennis history as just the third player to win 20+ matches at both Wimbledon and Roland Garros before his 23rd birthday.
Wednesday’s action also saw former World No. 5 Andrey Rublev defeat Lloyd Harris (6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3) despite the South African serving 25 aces without double-faulting once. After a hard-fought win in the first round, Rublev appeared to find his form against Harris, punching his ticket to the third round.
Additionally, after fighting back from two sets down in round one, Taylor Fritz pulled off a hard-fought five-set win against Canadian standout Gabriel Diallo, building on the top-ranked American’s recent hot streak on grass.
Unfortunately, several day three matches were suspended and will resume on Thursday, as seen below:
Luciano Darderi vs. Arthur Frey: Darderi leads two sets to love.
Jan-Lennard Struff vs Felix Auger-Aliassime: Tied one set each.
Arthur Rinderknech vs. Cristian Garin: Rinderknech leads two sets to one.
Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina vs. Botic van de Zandschulp: Suspended in the fourth set at 5-5, Davidovich-Fokina leads two sets to one.
Tiafoe and Lehecka Both Upset on Day 3 of ATP Wimbledon action
Although top-seeded players like Alcaraz, Fritz, and Rublev all emerged victorious from day three, two notable players were upset.
On Court 1, Great Britain’s own Cameron Norrie picked up a sensational four-set win (4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5) over Frances Tiafoe.
The win was a big one for Norrie, who saw his ranking fall to 61 leading up to this year’s tournament. With the hometown crowd behind him, Norrie was able to surge past Tiafoe, punching his ticket to the third round.
Meanwhile, over on Court 12, Jiri Lehecka, who entered Wimbledon 2025 as the No. 23 seed, was upset by Mattia Bellucci in straight sets (7-6, 6-1, 7-5). Despite the high-stakes affair, Belluci went 4/4 on break points, earning himself a spot in the third round.
