Battered jockey says ‘I didn’t see that coming’ after ‘outrageous’ Punchestown incident

THIS is the brutal moment poor jockey Sean Flanagan got clotheslined by a loose horse at Punchestown.

Flanagan was riding Gavin Cromwell’s strongly-fancied Stumptown in the rollercoaster Cross Country race at the big Irish meeting.

Jockey Sean Flanagan was barged to the floor after the loose horse collided into his mount Stumptown

He looked to be in a good position on the 11-2 chance in the marathon 4m1f contest before a nasty blunder at the 20th.

But much worse was to come five fences from home thanks to the rampaging Streets Of Doyen.

John McConnell’s 28-1 outsider had already unseated jockey Alex Harvey at an earlier fence but continued running with the field.

Streets Of Doyen disappeared from shot only to come charging back into the middle of the pack before another obstacle.

It was then he launched into Flanagan on seven-year-old Stumptown.

There was an almighty collision between the pair and Flanagan was sent flying from the saddle.

The jockey replied to a video showing the incident: “Did not see that one coming.”

The race was won by the heroic 14-year-old Singing Banjo at 28-1, with 9-1 Three By Two in second and big 5-4 fav Coko Beach in third.

But despite the thrilling finish it was Streets Of Doyen’s moment of rage which punters latched onto.

One said the horse was like WWE star Rey Mysterio flying in from the sides.

While others joked the ‘outrageous’ incident was more like Neigh Mysterio.

None of the horses were hurt – and the only damage Flanagan suffered was to his ego.
