Bayern Munich have long been admirers of Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko and he remains on their list of targets.

Sesko joined the Red Devils last summer from RB Leipzig in a £74m deal and made an encouraging start in his first season.

The Slovenian took time to get going and only really started shining when Michael Carrick took over in January, before ending the season injured.

Despite those early struggles and fitness issues, the 23-year-old scored 11 Premier League goals and 12 in all competitions, making some vital contributions to Manchester United’s return to the Champions League.

There seems little chance at all that the Red Devils would be looking to sell him this summer, but that does not mean that there is no interest in him.

German publication BILD’s Christian Falk told CF Bayern Insider that the Bundesliga champions are plotting a move for a centre-forward with the idea that Harry Kane continues to drop deeper as he gets older.

The report states that Bayern have been tracking Sesko since before Vincent Kompany even took over as manager in 2024 and he remains on the list of targets if they make a move for a new striker.

Bayern had Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea last season as back-up to Kane and have now signed Morocco international Ismael Saibari from PSV to fulfil that role.

However, their long-term plans will involve a new, more traditional, centre-forward and they think Sesko could be that man.

However, Sesko signed a five-year deal when he arrived at Old Trafford and a move away would only seem likely if he struggled in his second season in England and Manchester United were looking to do a deal.

Sesko is still recovering from the shin injury he picked up against Liverpool late last season and is training at Carrington rather than being involved in Manchester United’s pre-season friendlies.

The striker was not involved as United beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 on Saturday, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring twice in the come-from-behind win.

The Slovenia international posted an update from training on July 23, with images of him in action and the captain ‘getting there’ but he is still working back towards full fitness.

He is expected to be fine for the start of the new Premier League season and may even be involved against PSG in Manchester United’s next friendly on August 8.
