Bill Simmons Pitches Exciting LeBron James To Warriors Trade

NBA personality Bill Simmons often has his finger on the pulse when it comes to NBA news or calling out situations where a player wants to be moved. Simmons named LeBron James as someone getting tired of his current situation with the Los Angeles Lakers. Both James and the Lakers will have to figure out his future after his contract ends at the end of this season.

However, Simmons believes that a trade could fix the issue, help both teams team, and drastically improve the overall landscape of the league:

“How do you make the league more fun? You have a team that nobody’s excited about with the Lakers and a team that feels dead with the Warriors. LeBron for Jimmy Butler. That’s it. It feels like, for the good of the sport, trade, just more fun.”

Simmons thinks that LeBron would be happier and more productive on the Golden State Warriors teaming up with Stephen Curry. The trade proposal would see Jimmy Butler joining the Lakers as a better defender to help Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves contend in the Western Conference.

Would Golden State Want LeBron James?

Past seasons have shown that the Warriors hold strong interest in bringing over James if they could find a realistic deal. Last season had reports of Golden State reaching out about the potential of bringing in either LeBron or Kevin Durant to team with Curry. Neither name was on the trade block during the actual season to make the Warriors settle for Butler instead.

The 2024 Olympic moments of James and Curry teaming up show they enjoy playing together. Unfortunately, it has been impossible for them to play on the same team due to contracts and other variables. LeBron must willingly choose to end his career with the Warriors for such a move to happen.

Golden State would likely be more willing to offer James a large contract than the Lakers, but only if they moved Butler’s massive salary to free up the cap space. The Warriors could land LeBron in free agency, but the money total would be the big question. James might have to accept a cheaper deal than he’s used to if Butler remains on the roster.

Does LeBron James Want To Leave?

The Lakers are hoping to have a realistic path towards contending for an NBA Championship this season with the trio of James, Doncic and Reaves. However, it looks like a tough task in the loaded West and could see quick change coming in the offseason.

Los Angeles is viewing their future through a new perspective after acquiring Luka at the trade deadline last season from the Dallas Mavericks. All moves are being made with the intent of building a roster behind Doncic’s play, rather than factoring in LeBron’s future.

This is the first time James has entered a season without being the most important player on his NBA team. LeBron could look for both a better situation to contend for a title or for a more fun manner to end his career. Golden State does make sense in those regards, but the Simmons’ trade pitch is highly unlikely.
