Bills Could Trade for $110 Million Playmaker at This Year’s NFL Trade Deadline

During the 2024 season, the Buffalo Bills made a trade that acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns.

Cooper was supposed to come in and be the team’s No. 1 receiver, but the exact opposite happened.

The 31-year-old receiver only recorded 20 receptions for 297 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper didn’t have a significant impact on the Bills’ season, and he is now a free agent.

The Bills are not afraid to make big-time trades during the season, and in a year where they need to reach the Super Bowl, more trades could occur this October.

The Bills Could Trade For D.J. Moore

Marcus Mosher from Fansided thinks the Bills could make a trade at this year’s deadline that sends the team the Chicago Bears receiver D.J. Moore.

“It’s no secret that wide receiver could be an area of interest for the Bills, and D.J. Moore might be the biggest name available. The Bears selected Rome Odunze in Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft and then picked Colston Loveland and Luther Burden with back-to-back selections in the 2025 draft,” Mosher wrote. “Moore would be the best receiver on the roster and can play on the outside and in the slot. He’s averaged over 70 yards from scrimmage per game since 2019 and is still just 28. He’s not a true No. 1 receiver, but he’s a fantastic player who could thrive in the right situation.

“If Keon Coleman doesn’t take a big step forward in the first two months of the 2025 season, Moore could be an intriguing candidate for Buffalo. Expect Chicago to receive numerous calls regarding Moore as the season progresses.”

Moore is in the middle of a four-year $110 million contract and would be a great addition to the Bills’ receiver room.

The Bears Most Likely Won’t Trade Moore

The only problem is that the Bears should be a lot better this season and, most likely, won’t be willing to part ways with their young receiver.

Chicago has a second-year quarterback, Caleb Williams, who needs to improve this season. Taking away his best receiver isn’t the most excellent option, which is why Moore being traded is a long shot.

Bills fans know how much a veteran receiver helps a young quarterback, as evidenced by the 2020 acquisition of Stefon Diggs from the Minnesota Vikings to aid Josh Allen.

Allen turned into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL after Diggs arrived in Buffalo, and Moore could make the same impact on Williams this season.

Just because trading for Moore could be a long shot, it doesn’t mean the Bills won’t be able to acquire a quarterback at the trade deadline if they need one.

Nobody thought the Browns would make Cooper available for a trade heading into last season, as Cleveland was coming off a playoff appearance and looking to build on that in 2024.

The Browns’ season got off to a horrible start, and with Cooper not under contract for 2025, Cleveland decided to trade him. There is a chance another team could be in the same position as the Browns were last year and part ways with a receiver the Bills could grab.
