Blue Jays Emerge As Favorite to Land Top Free Agent Kyle Tucker

The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to be big players in free agency this offseason. After showing a willingness to commit to their best player by signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a $500 million deal last season. The Blue Jays’ front office has big decisions to make this offseason again, with the biggest storyline being shortstop Bo Bichette’s free agency sweepstakes.

However, a new report suggests that the Blue Jays have emerged as the frontrunner for former Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker, who is expected to sign for upwards of $400 million this offseason.

ESPN Insider Believes Blue Jays Are the Favorite to Land Kyle Tucker

According to ESPN insider Jeff Passan, the Blue Jays are “considered the favorite by other executives” to land Kyle Tucker in free agency:

“The Blue Jays, coming off their first World Series berth in more than three decades, have no plans to slow down. They are considered the favorite by other executives to land Tucker.”

Kyle Tucker is set to turn 29 at the beginning of the year, but he comes with a boatload of impressive accolades. He’s a four-time All-Star and 2X Silver Slugger. Tucker is regarded as the top free agent in this class due to his production, easy power, and track record of consistent seasons.

Despite a slight down season, Tucker hit .266 in 2025 with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs, and posted an OPS+ of 143. Since 2019, Tucker has had seven seasons of an OPS+ over 118 (18% above league-average).

Kyler Tucker Predicted to Receive $418 Million Deal

Per ESPN insider Kiley McDaniel, Kyle Tucker’s contract projection is 11 years, $418 million.

Tucker will be one of the most sought-after free agents, and since it seems like the Chicago Cubs are out of the running for him, that leaves all the big spenders included in the sweepstakes.

The Toronto Blue Jays were a top-five payroll team in 2025, and the expectation is that big spending will continue.

Jeff Passan reports that the Philadelphia Phillies may also be high on Kyle Tucker if they are unable to retain Kyle Schwarber.

Tucker would be a great addition to an already pesky Blue Jays lineup. Now the only draw to adding Tucker is that it might mean having to say goodbye to Bo Bichette, who is currently the team’s biggest free agent.

Bichette is also drawing a lot of interest from other teams at this juncture in free agency, as he’s clearly and away the best middle-infielder on the market.
