Another head coaching spot has opened in the NFL after Week 10.
The New York Giants have fired Brian Daboll from his head coaching duties after the team lost to the Chicago Bears, 20-24. The loss extended the Giants‘ losing streak to four games.
In his time with NY, Daboll has amassed a 20-40 record. His only winning season with the franchise came in his first season in charge of the team in the 2022 season, where he helped lead the team to a 9-7-1 record.
Now, three and a half seasons later, the organization has decided to move forward with another coaching option. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will serve as the interim head coach for the rest of the season.
With only 8 weeks left of the 2o25 season to go, the Giants will need to start thinking about who will be the next head coach in the future.
Los Angeles To New York?

There are plenty of younger coordinators who are ready to make the leap and become first-time head coaches.
Out of the 30 head coaches who still have their jobs (no Brian Daboll or former Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan), 18 of the coaches are under the age of 50. In recent years, it has been shown that organizations’ front offices are prioritizing younger head coaches.
CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan created a list of potential head coaching options for the Giants after Daboll’s firing, with him naming Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter as an option to fill in.
“Ownership and fans alike may want an offensive-minded head coach to further cater to [Jaxson] Dart’s development, but don’t sleep on a guy like Jesse Minter, either,” Sullivan wrote. “New York has invested heavily along the defensive line by acquiring the likes of Brian Burns, signing Dexter Lawrence to a big-money extension, and drafting Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux inside the top five of the NFL Draft in recent years. That unit has the potential to be among the best in the NFL, and could reach that with someone like Minter at the helm, which would, in turn, help Dart and the offense.”
“Minter, who was the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan and followed Jim Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers in the same role, has presided over some dominant defenses. In 2024, the Chargers ranked No. 1 in points allowed and are No. 6 in the league in yards allowed in 2025 (entering Week 10).”
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said last season that he believed that Minters was going to get his head coaching opportunity in the near future.
“Well, we’re probably gonna have to just enjoy Jesse Minter while we have him,” Harbaugh said, via FanSided’s Boltbeat. “I mean, I have a feeling he’s gonna be a head coach next year. We’ll be competing against him.”
“He knows offensive football almost as well as defensive football. He knows how an offense is going to try to attack… There’s some play callers that just have it too. He has it. In every way…”
Jesse Minter With Youthful Giants Defense

After Week 10, the Los Angeles Chargers defense is allowing the seventh fewest amount of points in the NFL, at 20.3 points per game.
As Sullivan mentioned, the NY Giants have invested a significant amount of resources in their defensive front. If Jesse Minter were to be hired as the next head coach of the Giants, he could help develop the young D-line to rush after opposing quarterbacks.
Currently, the sack leader for the Bolts is Tuli Tuipulotu, 23, with 8 sacks through 10 games. Under Minter, Tuli recorded 8.5 in his second season, which is his career high. The Chargers’ EDGE rusher is about to have a new season high in sacks while under Minter’s guidance.
Now, incorporating that with the youthful members of the Giants’ defense, Minter can help lower the Giants’ allowed points per game. New York currently allows the sixth most points per game with 27.3 ppg.
This will help Jaxson Dart and the offense get their footing by getting on the field more often, allowing them to get more points on the board.
While Minter isn’t likely the Giants’ fans’ first choice, he is an option the fans should be happy the team is considering.
The Bolts’ DC is just 42 years old and could connect with younger players easier.
