In a 2023 interview with Mpls. St. Paul Magazine, Naz reflected on his sister, describing her as a steady, nurturing force within their family.
“My older sister is super protective, she treats us like she’s our parent,” he said, adding that she played softball growing up in New Jersey. Both Naz and Toraya were coached in their respective sports by their father.
Naz Reid is a Surprise NBA Success Story
Naz entered college basketball as a consensus five-star recruit and spent one season at LSU, where he averaged 13.6 points and 7.2 rebounds. Though he went undrafted, the setback didn’t derail him. He secured a two-way contract with the Timberwolves and gradually carved out a role, working his way up the roster.
His persistence paid off in the 2023–24 season, when he was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year. Reid followed that recognition with the best numbers of his career, posting 14.2 points, six rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
This past offseason, the Timberwolves rewarded the 6-foot-9 forward with a five-year, $125 million contract—a clear signal of their long-term belief in him, even as they parted ways with wing Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who landed with the Atlanta Hawks in a sign-and-trade.
Naz is expected to step into a starting role in the new season, alongside newly acquired star Kevin Durant.
