Bo Nix does not mince words, and his take on himself after the Denver Broncos’ win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 14 was no different.
Nix and the Broncos have won 10 straight contests, and they have the best record in the NFL, overtaking the New England Patriots, who are on bye in Week 10. They have already bested their 2024 win total and swept the Raiders for the second straight season.
However, Nix also made it clear that the Broncos’ dreams do not stop there.
Bo Nix Owns ‘Negative’ Label After Broncos Defeat Raiders
GettyBo Nix #10 of the Denver Broncos looks to make a play against the Washington Commanders.
Nix completed 31 of 38 passes for 212 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions, while absorbing 3 sacks. His 5.6 yards per attempt are the fewest among all QBs to complete at least 30 of 35-plus attempts in a game this season, per Stathead.
It was a quintessential game-manager stat line.
That has become an unenviable term for quarterbacks, but Nix’s framing puts an entirely different spin on it.
“It’s become a negative thing. I don’t know why. Because the best quarterbacks of all time manage the game at a high level. I think the biggest difference is when the time comes down to it, they just find ways to make either an explosive or make another play. So, all the good ones, all the great ones that win, they manage the game at a high level,” Nix told media members on December 7.
“Some are just more flashy, and I think they don’t have that context or that tag, but it really doesn’t matter. Because your job as a quarterback [is to] execute the play that’s called, get your team in the end zone, and at the end of the day, have more points than the other team and find a way to win, and that’s what we’re managing to do.”
Broncos legend Peyton Manning won his final Super Bowl in 2015, playing a brand of football that was unlike the bulk of his career. The Hall of Famer struggled with efficiency, relying on a standout defense.
Manning was 39 years old at that point, whereas Nix does not turn 26 until February.
Still, teams have won by having their quarterbacks manage games, make big plays at key times, and otherwise leaning on their defense. That is what Nix and the Broncos plan to do.
Bo Nix: Win Streak ‘Amazing’
Nix and the Broncos’ current 10-game winning streak is tied for their third-highest in franchise history. It is also their longest since the 2012 campaign, when they set the club record with 17 straight victories.
That does not mean Nix and Co. are overlooking their current run or are satisfied.
Nix called it “amazing” and noted the streak and the Broncos’ 11-2 record. It is their best since Manning’s final season. They will tie the 2015 Broncos in that regard with one more win.
“That’s really tough to do at this point in the season. And 11-2, there’s not many things that you want to be negative about. Because you want to be appreciative of this opportunity, and be appreciative of the wins, no matter how they come,” Nix said.
“At the same time, we’re always looking to get better. We know that we’re not just going to continue to win games because we’ve won them in the past. We got to continue to get better, and it’s just a streak like that is hard to do. And I say it all the time, even though we’re now better than we were last year, we didn’t want to stop at 11.”
Nix commended his teammates for their work getting to this point.
Nix and the Broncos overcome some inconsistencies on the field. They have also navigated injury issues at nearly every position.
“Guys have battled, and we’ve been through a lot of crap,” Nix said. “Going to continue to get through all the rest of the season. And got a tough road ahead, but we’re all ready to go and excited for it.”
Up next, Nix and the Broncos will host the Green Bay Packers in Week 15.
