Broncos Want QB Bo Nix to Make Major Change in 2025: ‘Come Out Firing’

Bo Nix’s 2024 season was a huge success. But the Denver Broncos have a clear expectation for their franchise quarterback in Year 2 in the NFL.

Denver is reportedly hoping for Nix to “come out firing” in his second season as signal caller, contrary to his super-slow start he put forth last year.

Nix, the 12th overall pick of the 2024 draft who was one of two rookie QBs to make the playoffs last season, had great numbers especially for a rookie QB.

He completed 66.3 percent of his passes and finished with 3,775 yards, a 29-12 touchdown-to-interception rate and a 93.3 QB rating while finishing in third place in NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Jayden Daniels and Brock Bowers.

At 10-7, Denver qualified for the playoffs but fell 31-7 in the Wild Card round to the Buffalo Bills.

Why Do The Broncos Want Bo Nix To ‘Come Out Firing?’

Nix’s numbers were stupendous, but his 2024 season started painfully slow, even for a rookie. Over his first seven games, Nix averaged just 178 passing yards per game and had as many interceptions as touchdowns (5).

“The Broncos have really urged Nix and the offense to get off to a stronger start,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on SportsCenter on Monday. “They want to make sure they’re primed and ready for the playoffs in December, not scrambling to get in.”

With Nix at the helm, Denver started 0-2 and won in Week 4 at the New York Jets despite Nix’s 12-for-25, 60-yard performance at rain-soaked MetLife Stadium.

But, New York’s was one of a few aggressive defenses that Nix faced off against in the early part of 2024, along with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Broncos open their year against the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Chargers, three teams that aren’t renowned for their point suppression.

“Last year they faced a ton of tough defenses early on,” Fowler said. “They want Nix to come out firing early in the season.”

Can Bo Nix Come Out Firing in 2025?

Nix, at age 25, is one of the oldest quarterbacks in his draft class — a function of his five full years playing college football split between Auburn and Oregon. But if Fowler’s reporting is accurate, Nix was somewhat reserved in his first year, despite being in a leadership role.

But this season he is feeling more confident and comfortable in his skin in his second full season as Denver’s franchise quarterback.

“They feel like this off-season, he showed more of his personality,” Fowler said. “He’s somewhat of a semi-serious guy, especially coming into the league. He wanted to win the job and be the guy. Now he’s more personable around the quarterback room.”

Nix led all rookie quarterbacks in passing yards and played every snap for Denver a season ago. With career backups Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger behind him on the Broncos’ depth chart, and the Broncos snapping an eight-year playoff drought with Nix at the helm, it’s safe for Nix to feel like he will be doing this for a long time in the Mile High City.

“He looks like a guy, going into Year 2, that is fully confident that knows what he’s doing,” Fowler said.
