The Cleveland Browns have been engulfed in drama for pretty much the entire 2025 campaign, but they finally have some positive momentum surrounding them heading into Week 13. Shedeur Sanders excelled in his first start of his NFL career, and he has now earned himself an extended look under center moving forward.
Sanders’ ability to get points on the board helped out a Browns defense that has been among the best units in the league all season long. Now, Cleveland’s defense will look to continue wreaking havoc in Week 13, and ahead of the game, the team made an intriguing move involving veteran defensive tackle Sam Kamara.
Browns Elevate Sam Kamara to Active Roster
Kamara did not get selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he has managed to carve out a career as a reserve defensive tackle. After spending his rookie season with the Chicago Bears, Kamara found his way to the Browns in 2022, which is where he has spent the past four seasons of his career, working as a depth option on the defensive line.
After playing in a career-high 11 games last season, one of which was a start, the strength of Cleveland’s defensive line has made Kamara an afterthought. He’s spent most of the season on the team’s practice squad, playing in just one game to this point. Kamara’s experience in the Browns’ defensive scheme is valuable, though, as he can suit up in a pinch when needed.
With Adin Huntington ruled out for this game because of a quad injury, that meant that Cleveland’s defensive line depth was going to be lacking. As a result, the team decided to turn to Kamara, as he was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of this contest, meaning he will take the field for the second time this season.
“We’ve elevated DT Sam Kamara from the practice squad,” the Browns announced in a post on X.
Browns Looking to Pull Off Major Upset vs. 49ers

Kamara likely won’t play a major role in Cleveland’s game plan on defense, but he should get some snaps in this game, whether it be on the defensive line or on special teams. The Browns want to make life difficult for whoever they line up against, and having enough guys who can rotate in and out of the lineup on the d-line is important.
Winning in Week 13 will be a bit more difficult for Cleveland, as it draws a tough matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. In Week 12, the Niners struggled against a tough Carolina Panthers defense, so if the Browns can make things difficult for Brock Purdy and company, that could open the door for them to pull off a stunning upset. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
