Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Goes Off on Reporter After Stefanski Question

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders shut down a question on head coach Kevin Stefanski following a 26-8 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

The Browns went for it on fourth down twice in the loss, and both attempts backfired. The first — a direct snap to running back Quinshon Judkins — was blown up in the backfield. The second was even worse. Tight end Harold Fannin mishandled a direct snap, coughing up the ball and handing the 49ers possession around Cleveland’s 30-yard line.

Much has been made about the Browns’ reliance on the Wildcat — a look that takes Shedeur Sanders off the field entirely. But the rookie quarterback had no interest in questioning the coaching staff’s decision-making when asked about it in his postgame press conference.

“First, that’s a rude question to ask — if I think it was a great call by my coach,” Sanders said. “I like being out there playing. So whatever that comes with, it comes with. We are never going to be up here pointing a finger at no coach or do anything like that. That’s extremely disrespectful and not my place. I’m thankful for being out there, honestly, and that he trusts us as an offense to go out there and execute. Did we execute? No we didn’t but I’m thankful we have that trust.”

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Shoulders Blame After Loss

Sanders passed for 149 yards in the loss, which included a 34-yard touchdown pass to tight end Fannin in the first half. He completed 16 of 25 passes and was sacked three times. The rookie passer didn’t shy away from taking the blame for the loss.

“By wins and losses. Obviously, we lost, so I didn’t play well,” Sanders said when asked how he felt he played. “Moving forward, I know what we can do different going through the week to get fully prepared for every possibility.”

The Browns had to deal with multiple injuries during the matchup, notably on the offensive line. Right tackle Jack Conklin left with a concussion and the Browns also dealt with other guys going in and out of the lineup.

“Life’s difficult, in general, so that’s not a big problem to me. I’ve just got to be better, overall,” Sanders said. “I’ve got to be able to rally everybody together when adversity is hitting.”

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders to Start Against Titans

After the game, Stefanski made it clear that Sanders will be the starter next week against the Tennessee Titans.

“Obviously, he’s battling like all of our guys are battling I know there’s play he wants back, but we’ll look at it. We’ll correct it,” Stefanski said, before answering with a simple “yes” that Sanders would start next week.

He didn’t go as far as to assure that he’ll be the starter moving forward for the rest of the season.

“I’m not going to get into all of that other than to say we all just have to play better,” Stefanski said.

The Browns will likely be a favorite for the matchup with the Titans, who have won just one game this season with No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward at quarterback.
