Browns’ Shedeur Sanders Makes Feelings Clear on Jerry Jeudy After Pivotal Error

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders made his feelings clear on Jerry Jeudy after a costly drop turned into an interception during the team’s 31-3 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Sanders delivered a strike to Jeudy in the third quarter in the end zone. But what looked like a touchdown turned into a turnover when the ball hit Jeudy in the chest and bounced into the hands of Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson.

The interception showed up on Sanders’ stat line during a difficult outing, and he could have used more help from Jeudy — who is expected to be his top target — in the matchup. Instead of placing blame, Sanders publicly supported Jeudy.

“It’s going to happen. It is what it is. I’m not one to ever kick somebody down when he’s down,” Sanders said. “He understands it’s a big play and I’m sure he’s hard on himself, so it’s no need for me to be extra and do that.”

Jeudy addressed the play afterward, taking responsibility for the result.

“I think Shedeur threw a good pass,” Jeudy said. “It was just a good football play overall by (Johnson), but that’s something I expect to come down with.”

Jeudy finished the game with two catches for 22 yards. After a Pro Bowl season, Jeudy has just 40 catches for 519 yards and two touchdowns — far from serviceable numbers for a top option in the passing game.

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Still Has Belief

Sanders had a rough afternoon, completing 18 of 35 passes for just 177 yards. The majority of that came on two chunk plays to Isaiah Bond downfield. Sanders also tossed three interceptions.

“They had a great defensive scheme, and I enjoyed playing against them,” Sanders said after the game. “I enjoyed playing in that because it was definitely a little challenge, so I look forward to learning from that and look forward to understanding exactly how things were on film.”

Sanders entered the matchup riding high from a 364-yard passing game where he accounted for four touchdowns in a 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Despite the rough showing, Sanders is not lacking confidence.

“I’m the same person regardless,” he said. “I’ve still got the same belief in myself and like it is every week, you’ve got to get out there, learn to play better and that’s it.”

Shedeur Sanders Earns Support of Browns’ Veterans

A lot went wrong for the Browns against the Bears that was out of Sanders’ control. Special teams remained a mess, penalties piled up, and the Bears got the best of the Browns’ usually stellar defense.

However, Sanders’ actions during the game earned him some praise from veteran offensive lineman Joel Bitonio.

“He’s never complained once,” Bitonio said. “He just really does keep his head down and he’s trying. He takes some big hits on some scrambles and some pocket breakdowns and he takes some big hits and he’s just back up, trying to make the next play, trying to make a big play. So it’s, it’s a huge credit to him and hopefully we can continue to improve around him, give him a chance to keep improving.”

The Browns will host the Buffalo Bills next week before closing out the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals.
