The Chicago Bears had a game to remember in the win against the Washington Commanders, filled with emotions and questionable calls by the refs.
One player who many fans might not have recognized but put on a great performance was kicker Jake Moody, who filled in for Cairo Santos. Even quarterback Caleb Williams wasn’t too familiar with the former San Francisco 49ers kicker, and had a funny response when asked about Moody after his game-winning 38-yard field goal.
Caleb Williams’ Response When Asked About Jake Moody
“I really didn’t know who he was when he first joined the team,” Williams said after the game. “And then I saw him kick a 65-yarder in practice and for what he was able to do, come in here, I know he’s had some tough times recently but been able to come in here, rainy, windy, all of this and come through for us. Proud of him, happy for him, and happy for us as a team.”
Williams’ response regarding Moody has fans having a good laugh, and there’s no way fans (and Caleb) won’t know who he is going forward.
Moody, who signed with the Bears’ practice squad on September 13th, made four of his five field-goal attempts in harsh weather conditions to help the Bears beat the Commanders 25-24.
The former 49ers kicker struggled before ultimately getting cut after appearing in just one game with the team this season. It appeared to be a mental battle for Moody, who benefited from the change of scenery with the Bears.
Moody’s Response After the Game
After celebrating with teammates, Moody was asked about what was going through his mind after everything he’s been through.
“I mean it feels amazing. You know, to get all that support after the game, from all my teammates. I got here not too long ago, but for everybody to embrace me and take me in as one of their own, it’s an amazing feeling.”
Moody was then asked about what he was saying to himself after things went sideways in San Francisco, and this is what he had to say.
“It’s always good to have a fresh start, and I always believed in myself, believed in my teammates. Shoutout to Scott [Daly] and Tory [Taylor], they made the operation really easy on me. Same with the O-line up front, protecting great on that last one. You can’t draw it up any better.”
But it wasn’t a perfect game for Moody either. There was a block field-goal attempt before his game-winning kick, and he was asked about what he was saying to himself as he was lining up for the game-winning field-goal attempt.
And it was the perfect response.
“I like to say, ‘You’re only as good as your next kick,’ so can’t dwell on the past, gotta move on and focus on the next kick.”
Even if Santos isn’t fully healthy next week to kick, the Bears should feel pretty confident with Moody from this point forward.
