Canucks Increase Asking Price for Available Star

The Vancouver Canucks have set a new asking price for one of their stars. After a disappointing start to the 2025-26 season, Vancouver is willing to part ways with some of their key players. Superstar blueliner Quinn Hughes has been linked with a move away from the Canucks in recent weeks. A potential deal, however, is not thought to be close, and the speculation could drag on for months.

Nevertheless, Kiefer Sherwood’s future with Vancouver is likely to be sorted out sooner. Several teams have already been locked in negotiations with the Canucks regarding the forward. The veteran is having a solid current campaign with 16 points, including a dozen goals, in 29 games with Vancouver. Sherwood also helps out his team defensively, as he leads the Canucks in hits by some margin.

While the Canucks are willing to deal Sherwood, they have recently increased their asking price for the forward. According to The Athletic, Vancouver execs now want a solid NHL-ready player and a first-round draft pick in order to part ways with Sherwood.

Canucks team president Jim Rutherford previously made it clear that he prefers acquiring young NHL players in deals involving his veteran players rather than picks. It now seems that the team wants both of these assets for Sherwood.

Vancouver Canucks Recently Rejected Trade Offer for Kiefer Sherwood

GettyKiefer Sherwood is expected to be traded by the Vancouver Canucks this season.

One team that is being heavily linked with Sherwood is the Minnesota Wild. The fellow Western Conference club is looking to add some firepower to help its struggling offense. The Wild has averaged just 2.69 goals per game to start the 2025-26 season. This particular figure ranks 26th among all NHL teams at the moment. The team has not scored more than two goals in each of its last four matchups.

Negotiations between the Canucks and Wild have even reached the point of an official offer. The Athletic claims that Minnesota has tried to acquire Sherwood for a young, unnamed prospect. Vancouver, however, rebuffed the proposal due to their new and improved asking price.

It remains to be seen if the Wild is willing to meet these steep demands. One potential hesitation for Minnesota is the fact that Sherwood’s production has fallen off in recent weeks. In fact, the forward’s last goal came way back on November 11, and he has not grabbed a point in any of his last seven games. Despite this, the Canucks appear to be in a good position due to the diminished forward trade market this season.

Wild Attempted to Make Major Trade with Canucks in the Summer

The ongoing negotiations between Vancouver and Minnesota are also interesting due to a recent blocked trade in the offseason. According to the aforementioned outlet, the Wild attempted to trade Marco Rossi to the Canucks. Minnesota apparently wanted fellow center Aatu Raty as part of the deal. Vancouver, however, rejected the proposal.

In the end, Rossi signed a three-year, $15 million contract with the Wild in August. The budding star was off to a solid start to the 2025-26 season before going down with an injury. Rossi has 13 total points in 17 games during the current campaign.

Raty, on the other hand, has picked up just 11 points in 26 games with the Canucks. Three of these points for the center, interestingly enough, came against the Wild in a recent matchup on December 6.
