It was a bold call by Mike Vrabel, after the Patriots had been stopped at the Buccaneers goal line three straight times at the end of the first half. New England had one last shot with two seconds remaining, and appeared set to take a field goal and head into the locker room with a 10-10 halftime tie. Instead, Vrabel decided to gamble, and the Patriots came through with a 1-yard touchdown fling from Drake Maye to Stefon Diggs that required Diggs to pull out some nifty footwork to get his toes inbounds for a 14-10 lead.
The Patriots went on to a grind of a 28-23 road win, their seventh straight and arguably their best W of the year.
Patriots coaches celebrated the score. Patriots players celebrated the score. Patriots fans celebrated the score. One of the newest denizens of Patriots Nation–hip hop artist Cardi B–celebrated, too.
Cardi B is Diggs’ partner and set to have a baby with him in a few months. And she … well, she had her own unique celebration of Diggs’ score.

Diggs, to his credit, was big in the game, with five receptions for 46 yards. He also made one of the biggest catches of the game when he caught a very difficult onsides kick from Chase McLaughlin at the end of the game to help the Patriots retain possession and kill the clock.
Patriots Struck Big With Stefon Diggs
After the game, Maye was complimentary, as usual, of Diggs, who has turned out to be one of the better offensive offseason signings in the league, certainly on par with Davante Adams’ impact on the Rams. Diggs has 50 catches for 554 yards this season.
“First and goal from the 1. Shoot, we didn’t get in the first three times, called a play to get our guys involved,” Maye said. “And Stef made a great play. Hunter was open as well, Stef did a great job of getting two feet down, a toe-tap extraordinaire.”

Patriots ‘Huge Play’ From Drake Maye, Stefon Diggs
The Patriots kept pace atop the AFC at 8-2 with the Colts, who were come-from-behind winners over the Falcons in Berlin on Sunday, and the Broncos, who gasped out a 10-7 win over the Raiders on Thursday.
Coach Mike Vrabel has been the big key in that turnaround, but even with his decision to trust Drake Maye and Stefon Diggs in that situation, he pushed praise onto the players.
“That was a huge, huge play on fourth down, we got confidence in our guys. To be able to have confidence in them at that moment and for them to come through, that’s about players and not necessarily plays,” Vrabel said. I was really excited and proud for Stef and Drake for scoring when we were and being able to end the half with the ball in our hands.
“Huge, huge, obviously. I made a decision to trust our players and they came through. They made me look good.”
Safe to say that Cardi B was also excited.
