Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez will miss the rest of the season with the Argentine set for surgery on his groin injury, according to reports.
The injury forced Fernandez out of Chelsea’s win over Everton 10 days ago but he started in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City and their 5-0 loss at Arsenal.
Fernandez played those two games despite suffering from an inguinal hernia, according to Argentine outlet Ole, and has now decided to go under the knife.
That decision was reached following talks between Chelsea’s medical staff and Argentina’s national team doctors after the Blues crashed out of the FA Cup.
Chelsea wanted Fernandez to have a non-invasive procedure but with their season effectively over after losing their FA Cup semi-final, they reached an agreement with Argentina, who want the midfielder ready for the Copa America.
The Copa America gets started on June 20 as Fernandez looks to win more major silverware with his country after Argentina won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Chelsea smashed the British transfer record to sign the 23-year-old from Benfica in January 2023 with Fernandez thought to be under contract until 2032.

Fernandez opened up about his spell at Stamford Bridge earlier this month and admits it hasn’t been easy since he arrived in west London.
‘The first six months weren’t easy, changing country, language, I had a child,’ Fernandez said.
‘It wasn’t easy coming here, but now everything is better, I’m more settled and enjoying it.
