Chiefs to Sign 1,648-Yard RB From AFC South Rival: Insider

The Kansas City Chiefs bounced back with a vengeance in Week 12 after dropping consecutive games to the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos. Patrick Mahomes and company had the tall task of taking on an outstanding Indianapolis Colts team, led by a resurgent Daniel Jones and arguably the best running back in the NFL, Jonathan Taylor.

Despite the odds being against them, the Chiefs were able to come through late in the game, forcing overtime and then emerging victorious with a game-winning field goal from kicker Harrison Butker.

Apparently, after securing their sixth win of the 2025 NFL season, the Chiefs’ front office was busy working on adding to the backfield, as Kansas City is expected to bring in a new running back on Monday.

Chiefs Set to Sign RB Dameon Pierce

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs are expected to sign former Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce to their practice squad.

The expected signing of Pierce by the Chiefs was also confirmed by Chiefs beat writer Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest.

The Texans released Pierce earlier this week after he played only four games this season for the team. He recorded only 26 rushing yards on 10 carries across those games.

He played a total of 42 games for the Texans, leading back to the 2022 season, where he was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft with the 107th overall pick. Pierce racked up 1,942 yards from scrimmage and nine total touchdowns during his stint in Houston.

Chiefs Beat Out a Ton of Suitors for Dameon Pierce

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, Pierce had no shortage of interest from teams around the NFL after he was released by the Texans, with two of those teams, the Los Angeles Chargers and Broncos, being AFC West division rivals.

It seems as though a lot of teams around the league are confident that Pierce just needs a change of scenery in order to reach his true potential. He may get that chance to prove his worth with the Chiefs, as Isiah Pacheco continues to deal with an MCL sprain.

Pierce was likely brought in for insurance purposes in the backfield and could share some carries with veteran running back Kareem Hunt. If Pierce’s signing goes off without a hitch and he’s ultimately elevated to the active roster, there’s a chance he could suit up and play in the Thanksgiving Day showdown with the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Thursday.

The Florida product’s best season in the NFL came in his rookie campaign in 2022. He came 61 rushing yards shy of cracking 1,000, racking up 939 yards and four touchdowns on 220 carries. Pierce also caught 30 passes for 165 receiving yards and a touchdown during his first season with the Texans.

It’ll be interesting to see if Pierce gets a shot to prove his worth to the Chiefs and whether his presence in the backfield makes the team’s offense that much more dynamic moving forward.
