The Kansas City Chiefs have finally cashed out on one of their biggest draft disappointments of recent years.
The Chiefs have traded away fan least-favorite, Skyy Moore, to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a day 3 pick swap in 2027, per Adam Schefter.
The compensation for Moore’s services will be a sixth round pick in 2027, with Kansas City sending a seventh rounder back in the same year.
Back in 2022, the Chiefs selected the Western Michigan grad with the 54th overall pick in the NFL Draft, a move that was widely lauded by media pundits and draft analysts – many of whom had long kept a big soft spot for the now-24 year old.
However, two seasons of very under-par production, in which Moore failed to break through just the 250 yard barrier in both, were followed by an injury-hit 2024 that saw the Pennsylvania native played in just 6 games, recording no receptions, catches or receiving yards.
A training camp in which he failed to make his mark in the receiving department, once again, was followed by a brutal Friday night game in which he dropped two passes saw both fans and the clearly the coaching staff get frustrated with his output on offense.
The only hope for Moore to remain on the roster longer term – or indeed just through 2025, was through his acumen on special teams, where he has improved considerably as a returner – including managing an 88-yard punt return that same Friday night against the Seahawks last weekend.
How Will The Chiefs Feel About The Compensation For Moore?
Although swapping a sixth for a seventh in 2027 is nothing to write home about, it was not even clear that the Chiefs would manage to find a trade partner for Moore, considering his rock-bottom production on offense over the past few years.
But as Schefter noted, the 49ers – the Chiefs trading partner – are in a really tough position regarding their passing-game weaponry in the receiver room.
“The 49ers have been decimated with injuries at WR.” Schefter wrote on Wednesday, “Brandon Aiyuk is recovering from a knee injury, Jauan Jennings has been dealing with a calf injury, Jordan Watkins has a high ankle sprain, DeMarcus Robinson is facing a three-game suspension.”
And, of course, the team traded former second round pick and versatile weapon, Deebo Samuel, to the Washington Commanders back in March.
Who Will The Chiefs Look To Start At Receiver?
Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown will look to be the focal point of the deep passing offense, with uncertainties remaining surrounding Rashee Rice‘s availability for the remainder of the season after his hearing date for a possible future suspension on September 30th.
Worthy had a promising rookie year that saw him hit 638 receiving yards, 104 rushing yards and 9 total touchdowns. His 4’21 combine record-setting speed will no doubt continue to be issues for safeties and corners throughout the league.
Brown will look to come back from what was essentially a lost season in 2024, having recorded just 91 yards receiving in two games, as he spent the majority of the time recovering from a sternoclavicular injury suffered in September 2024.
