Commanders Get More Brutal Injury News After ‘SNF’ Loss to Seahawks

The Washington Commanders were not just thoroughly embarrassed by the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. The result only added insult to injury.

The Commanders, of course, lost quarterback Jayden Daniels to a potentially serious arm injury, but they also may have lost cornerback Marshon Lattimore for the year after he sustained a knee injury in their 38-14 loss at Northwest Stadium.

Washington (3-6) was the NFC runner-up a season ago, but it has lost four straight games and things have gone sideways.

The Commanders were never competitive Sunday night, falling behind 28-0 in the first half Sunday night and allowing Seahawks QB Sam Darnold to go 17 for 17 with four touchdowns, while helping Seattle take a 31-7 lead into the break.

It won’t get easier for Washington either, since it will host the Detroit Lions (5-3) on Sunday in Landover, Maryland.

Marshon Lattimore Has Likely Played His Final Snap For The Commanders

Lattimore was injured on the third play of the second half, where ironically he recorded a pass defended while helping the Commanders get their first stop of the game Sunday night. But Lattimore exited to the locker room and did not return.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Lattimore’s injury as a torn ACL, which could be confirmed by an MRI.

Washington acquired Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints at last year’s trade deadline, since the 2017 first-round draft pick had pedigree and was thought to be an upgrade in its defensive secondary.

Yet, a year later, with the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline set to pass at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, and that move doesn’t look particularly great.

Lattimore played just 11 games in a Commanders uniform, plus all three playoff games in January, while posting just 31 tackles, one tackle for loss, 10 passes defended, one fumble recovery and one interception — though he did have 15 tackles and two passes defended in the postseason.

With Lattimore set to count for $18.5 million against the salary cap next season, while coming off a catastrophic injury, and Washington on the hook for no guaranteed money in 2026, it seems extremely unlikely he will return.

Lattimore has earned a dreadful 52.1 overall grade from Pro Football Focus this year while playing 89 percent of Washington’s defensive snaps. As a result, the Commanders rank 29th in the NFL in passing-yards against per game (253.6) and are 28th in yards-against per game (377.8).

Marshon Lattimore Wasn’t The Only Catastrophic Injury For Washington

Aside from Lattimore, and of course their franchise quarterback Daniels, the Commanders also may have lost second-year wide receiver Luke McCaffrey to a broken collarbone.

McCaffrey set the tone for the Commanders’ night by getting injured on the first play of the game — he returned the opening kickoff 19 yards but left with what was initially called a shoulder injury — and did not return.

According to Rapoport, McCaffrey’s injury, like Lattimore’s, would be season ending.

McCaffrey is tied for third on the Commanders in receiving yards (203) with franchise receiver Terry McLaurin — who also missed Sunday night’s game with a quadriceps injury. McCaffrey is second on Washington in both touchdowns (3) and yards per reception (18.5), since he has only 11 catches this season.
