In order to address some health concerns along their offensive line, the Washington Commanders signed C Nick Harris on Thursday, per Nicki Jhabvala. Harris started six games across two seasons in his time with the Browns, but has been a backup for most of his career otherwise.
Harris was a fifth-round pick of the Browns back in 2020, after being a four-year starter in college at Washington. He was named first-team all-Pac 12 as a senior. After playing out his rookie contract in Cleveland, he signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in 2024, though he was traded back to the Browns prior to the season and played out the year in Cleveland.
Nick Harris Could Be Valuable Depth Along the Commanders’ Offensive Line

The starters on the offensive line for Washington appear to be set â at least when everyone is healthy. Offseason trade acquisition Laremy Tunsil at left tackle, Brandon Coleman at left guard, Tyler Biadasz at center, Sam Cosmi at right guard, and Andrew Wylie at right tackle. 2025 first-round pick Josh Conerly Jr. is the heir apparent at one of the tackle spots, but he might not play much as a rookie.
Cosmi is currently on the active/physical unable to perform (PUP) list due to a torn ACL he suffered in the team’s divisional round game back in January. He won’t be ready to start the season, but he could return within a few months. He’ll start the season on the PUP list and won’t count against the active roster until he’s activated. In the meantime, Nick Allegretti is his presumed replacement at right guard.
With Cosmi’s injury, the Commanders were a little thin on the interior. Behind Allegretti, they have Chris Paul, Michael Deiter, and Tyre Phillips. Harris is now added to that group, providing some stability at center should more injuries occur.
The Commanders Will Look to Take Another Step in Year 2 of Jayden Daniels
The No. 2 overall pick in 2024, QB Jayden Daniels took the league by storm as a rookie, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year and leading the team to the NFC Championship Game. He knows, however, that to repeat that performance and take another step as a team, they’ll need more help this year.
Commanders HC Dan Quinn and GM Adam Peters bolstered the offensive line through trades, free agency, and the draft, and added a number of pieces to the defense. Perhaps most critically, they traded for WR Deebo Samuel from the 49ers, boosting the offense with an influx of speed and explosiveness.
Critically, however, star WR Terry McLaurin has not ended his holdout. Without him, this team could struggle, and they don’t have anyone on the roster who can replicate his skills and importance to the team. Until he’s practicing again, his absence will hang over the team.
