Controversial Maxx Crosby Decision May Spell The End In Las Vegas: Report

On Friday, Dec. 26, the Las Vegas Raiders made the surprising decision to place star edge rusher Maxx Crosby on injured reserve to end his season. Crosby, who had been on the injury report for the five weeks prior, was clearly upset about the Raiders decision to cut his season short.

Raiders head coach Pete Carroll confirmed that Crosby immediately left the facility after hearing the news.

“He didn’t want to take the news like that, and I didn’t want to take the news like that,” Carroll said. “… If we let him, he would have been out there, and he would not have hesitated, but he knows that he’s banged up. So he’s talking about, ‘I’d like to get out of here.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, get out of here.’ So, he took off.”

Crosby has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL during his seven year career. Much of it has been done in vain though, as the Raiders have made the playoffs just once since he’s been with Las Vegas, back in 2021 when they lost in the Wild Card round.

The seven-year veteran will finish the season with 10 sacks, 73 tackles, and an interception.

New Report Hints at Potential Departure For Crosby

According to a report from NFL insider Dianna Russini, speculation is growing that Crosby may be moved this offseason as his relationship with the Raiders continues to be tenuous.

“Maxx Crosby’s Raiders future is also being questioned around the league,” Russini wrote. “Las Vegas shut down its five-time Pro Bowler last week against his wishes, and the relationship between the sides remains strained. It’s a dramatic shift from just two months ago, when Crosby and Davis nixed any trade discussions ahead of the Nov. 4 deadline.”

“Many believe Las Vegas will be open to moving its star pass rusher if the relationship remains at an impasse, allowing Crosby, who will turn 29 this summer,  an opportunity to compete on a team built to win now.”

Crosby is still under contract with Las Vegas through the 2029 season via a three year extension he signed last year.

His trade value will be sky high; if Vegas shops him around, the easy comparison would be the Micah Parsons trade, which netted Dallas two first round picks and a solid player in Kenny Clark. Crosby would certainly demand that type of return, though it could be less depending on if his potential new team would be willing to take on $30 million for the next few seasons.

He’d probably be shopped to Super Bowl contending teams. The addition of Crosby to any top-10 team in the NFL would have the potential to elevate them to Super Bowl favorites next season.

Raiders in Line to Secure No. 1 Pick in 2026 Draft

With a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend, Las Vegas will secure the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. At 2-14, there are four teams at 3-13 who could theoretically overtake them with a loss and a Raiders win.

Vegas needs the No. 1 pick more than any of their counterparts though. They’ll be in line to select their choice of quarterback as they look to rebuild their core around a new franchise QB.
