Cowboys DT Quinnen Williams Makes Feelings Clear on Replacing Micah Parsons

The Dallas Cowboys made a splash by trading for Quinnen Williams at the trade deadline and the former All-Pro is already hearing some comparisons to Micah Parsons.

Parsons starred on the Dallas defense for four years before being traded ahead of this season in a stunning move. He was a perennial contender for Defensive Player of the Year and racked up 52.5 sacks. Since Parsons’ departure, the Cowboys’ defense has struggled mightily, especially in the pass rush department.

Williams is a three-time Pro Bowler with 40 career sacks and is one of the top defensive tackles in the league. However, he plays on the interior of the line and made his feelings on the comparisons to Parsons very clear.

“Micah Parsons is a phenomenal player. He can do things I can’t dream about doing, especially when it comes to rushing the passer,” Williams said. “We’re totally different players. I’m more interior presence, interior push, physical, strong, and a good interior pass rusher. I’m just here to do my job to the best of my ability and be a difference-maker from an interior standpoint and a defensive line standpoint the best way I can.”

Quinnen Williams Wants to be Disruptor for Cowboys

The Cowboys sent a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick and defensive tackle Mazi Smith to the Jets for Williams. He’s excited to join a defensive line that has some talented pieces like Osa Odighizuwa and Pro Bowler Kenny Clark.

“I hang my hat on being disruptive, being dominant and rushing the passer. And also this year, I’ve been taking a step forward in stopping the run,” Williams said. “I’ve been reading a lot of stuff and seeing a lot of stuff on Dallas stopping the run, so having the opportunity to come here and help those guys out at that and just turn this thing around when it comes down to that point, it’s going to be unbelievable for me.”

Williams got off to a slow start this season through eight games with the Jets. He’s registered one sack and has a 9.9% pass-rush win rate. He’ll look to get back on track when the Cowboys take on the Las Vegas Raiders when they return from their bye week.

“At the end of the day, if I can be on the field, and if I can do the things I know I can do, I can be a help to this defense, a help to this team to win football games,” Williams said. “No matter what they ask me to do, no matter what they want me to do, if it’s to get all three of [himself, Clark and Odighizuwa] on the field moving to defensive end for a couple of plays, I’m willing to do that, whatever they ask me to do. I pride myself on being the best player, best person I am in the locker room and on the field.”

Cowboys DT Quinnen Williams Eager to Win

Williams was the No. 3 overall pick of the Jets in 2019. He’s never experienced the postseason and has gone through some rough seasons in New York. He’s hoping that changes in Dallas.

“I’m hungry to win, I’m hungry to win. That’s the main thing,” Williams said. “I’m an ultimate competitor, man. Everything I do is about winning. Everything I do, everything I work, when I wake up I just want to win. That’s what kind of forms my ego of I can do anything the coaches ask me to do if it’s going to get us a win.”

The Cowboys have some work to do if they hope to make it back into the playoff picture. Monday’s loss dropped Dallas to 3-5-1, and the Cowboys have a difficult back-half of their schedule.
