Daniel Jones Reacts to Colts Beating Raiders in Week 5

The Indianapolis Colts‘ offense dismantled the Las Vegas Raiders‘ defense in their 40-6 win on October 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Daniel Jones wasn’t asked to put the offensive responsibilities on his shoulders; he just needed to make plays when asked, which he did.

Jones completed 20 of 29 pass attempts while recording 212 passing yards and two touchdowns. While these are flashy numbers, they are solid ones as the former New York Giants quarterback needs to get the ball to his playmakers.

After the lopsided win over the Silver and Black, Jones spoke with FOX Sports and shared his thoughts on the victory.

“I think it’s just how it unfolded for us,” Jones told the outlet. “I think fishing in the past game to start, and then as the game goes on and we wear on them a little bit, some of those runs pop, and we have some explosive runs. So I thought we executed well. Like you said, a great team win for us and a lot of complementary football ()

“It’s been a good start for us, and I think we’re excited. We’re confident as a group, confident on offense, on what we can do. I think we’ve been good throwing it. We’ve been good running it. I think it starts a lot with the guys up front and how well they’ve played. So we [have] got to continue to grow, continue to progress, but we’re excited about our start.”

Geno Smith’s Struggles for the Raiders Continue

While Jones is happy on what he saw from the Colts‘ offense, the same cannot be said about Las Vegas. Smith completed 25 of 36 passes for 228 yards but threw two interceptions, extending his struggles with turnovers.

Following a Week 1 victory, the Silver and Black have dropped four straight games, with Smith’s play at the center of the struggles. Despite the rough stretch, the veteran quarterback remains confident that the team can reverse course.

After the loss, Smith addressed reporters, sharing the message he’s passing along to the Raiders locker room as the skid stretches into another week.

“I think we didn’t come out [strong],” Smith said after the loss. “We didn’t execute the way we’re supposed to [on offense/defense]. That’s the reality of it. We got to fix it; we got to get better. We got to go to work and figure it out [as a team].”

Can the Raiders Still Salvage Their 2025 NFL Season?

Smith also outlined ways Las Vegas could turn around its 2025 NFL season before it slips further, if it hasn’t already.

“Work harder, study harder, study longer, band together, become a tighter group,” Smith added. “And I think we’re already a tight group, but we got to get tighter as a group. And guys got to lock in. I mean, it’s a tough game. It’s a one-play-at-a-time game.

“They’re going to face a tough team every week. Man, that’s the NFL. There’s not going to be any easy game. We got to get in our mind that we’re going to go out and win the game and we’re going to get it done. Until we do that, we’ll have the same results.”
