Dawn Staley’s Relationship Status Has Remained Closely Guarded

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley has returned to the top of the college basketball world as she seeks another national title.

But for all her time in the spotlight, Staley has kept her personal life — and her relationship status — largely a mystery. Staley is aiming to bring another national championship as her team faces off against UCLA on Sunday, and in doing so has brought more attention to her relatively guarded personal life.

Dawn Staley Has No Known Romantic Partner

Staley is not married and has not been known to have any public relationship, though has shared some love for longtime associated head coach Lisa Boyer. In a 2018 post, Staley jokingly referred to Boyer as an “old married couple.”

Boyer!! We are that old married couple who started young and will grow old together,” Staley shared in a post on X in response to Boyer celebrating 10 years with the program. “You put the ride and die in the RIDE and DIE! Proud of you Boyer. Thanks for sacrificing your career to help to me serve our teams, program, university and state. What a ride?!”

Staley opened up a bit about her personal life in her new book, “Uncommon Favor,” giving credit to many of the people who inspired her but sharing no information about any romantic relationships.

Dawn Staley Avoiding Distractions

One of Staley’s professional relationships was thrown into the spotlight this week when UConn head coach Geno Auriemma blew up at her following his team’s loss in the Final Four. Auriemma said after the game that he was upset about officiating and what he saw as preferential treatment toward Staley, but he later apologized.

“There’s no excuse for how I handled the end of the game vs. South Carolina,” Auriemma said in a statement, via ESPN. “It’s unlike what I do and what our standard is here at Connecticut. I want to apologize to the staff and the team at South Carolina. It was uncalled for in how I reacted. The story should be how well South Carolina played, and I don’t want my actions to detract from that. I’ve had a great relationship with their staff, and I sincerely want to apologize to them.”

Staley took it in stride, saying she didn’t want to let personal distractions get in the way of South Carolina’s goal to bring home another national title.

“Nothing, nothing can derail us, or me, from staying with the task at hand,” Staley said. “There are a lot of distractions that are placed in your life. You’re either going to address them and let it overcome or you stick with the task at hand.”
